The inauguration of the Hospital Candide, in Antanimasaja Mahajanga, took place on 29 September. The Centre, formerly called "Bardelli Health Center", is open to the population of Mahajanga since 2004. Its activities have expanded thanks to the partnership with the Akbaraly Foundation and include the prevention of breast and uterine cancer.
The ceremony began with a Mass for all the public. It was then followed by a short presentation by Dr. Candide, the representatives of the Akbaraly Foundation, the VIM and the delegation of the Cevese NGO (dedicated to Alessandro Cevese, Ambassador of Italy in South Africa, great friend of the Akbaraly family, who passed away in 2008 after an accident), which stressed that their action is a veritable hymn to Friendship and Unity.
The Mayor of Mahajanga and the Head of the Boeny Region were also present.
In the afternoon, during a working session at the Karibo Lodge Hotel, which was attended by the representatives of the NGO Cevese, Dr. Candide and Dr. Henri of the Akbaraly Foundation, several important points for the future have been highlighted, including the importance of training hospital staff, especially in pediatrics, and the cooperation with the Cevese NGO for the production of galenic preparations. Another proposal included the creation of a stable outside the hospital to accommodate families of patients who come from remote areas, especially during the rainy season, a project whose cost is estimated at about 15,000 euros.
At the end of the day, a "solidarity dinner" for all the participants.
The ceremony showed once again the solidarity among different peoples, without distinction of religion or nationality. Thanks to all partners for their contributions and valuable collaborations!
